Masking: inside another image
![]()
Have you ever wanted to place one stamp image on top of or inside another? It’s easy with a technique called “masking”. I’ve split this into two parts (1) putting one image IN FRONT of another or (2) putting one image INSIDE of another
You’ll need:

- Scissors or an Xacto knife
- Stamp pad
- Sticky notes (Post-it notes)
- Rubber stamps
- Paper or cardstock
Masking: Putting one image inside of another
STEP 1

Stamp your foreground image (the window) on a sticky note. If possible stamp part of the image on the the part of the sticky-note that’s sticky.
STEP 2

Using scissors or an Xacto knife, this time instead of cutting out the image you’ll cut out the INSIDE of the image.
STEP 3

Stamp the foreground image (the window) onto your cardstock.
STEP 4

Place the mask directly over your stamped image. Once again, the sticky part of the sticky note should help to hold it in place.
STEP 5

Stamp the image that’s going inside the first image, in this case stamp little Olivia inside the window.
NOTE: Notice that the bottom of the stamped image (her feet) ended up on the sticky note. If you are stamping something inside of something else make sure that the sticky note covers enough area around the image (in this case the window). If you don’t little Olivia’s head would look lovely inside the window but then her feet would also show below the window. Not the look I would have been going for.
STEP 6

Pull the mask off and Ta-da! You should have one image inside the other.
