Masking: in front
![]()
Have you ever wanted to place one stamp image on top of or inside another? It’s easy with a technique called “masking”. I’ve split this into two parts (1) putting one image IN FRONT of another or (2) putting one image INSIDE of another
You’ll need:

- Scissors or an Xacto knife
- Stamp pad
- Sticky notes (Post-it notes)
- Rubber stamps
- Paper or cardstock
Masking: Putting one image in front of another
STEP 1

Stamp your foreground image (the dog) on a sticky note. If possible stamp part of the image on the the part of the sticky-note that’s, well…sticky.
STEP 2

Using scissors or an Xacto knife cut out your image. I usually cut a little bit inside the line. You may be asking why. Well, even though the sticky note is thin it still has some thickness. If you cut just a bit inside the line when you use the mask there won’t be a gap between the front and back images.
STEP 3

Stamp the foreground image (the dog) where you want it on your cardstock.
STEP 4

Place the sticky note mask EXACTLY on top of your stamped image.
If you were able to stamp part of the mask on the sticky part of the sticky note it should hold it in place. Otherwise just be careful it doesn’t move (ie. no sneezing or heavy breathing).
STEP 5

Stamp the background image, in this case, the trees directly over the mask.
STEP 6

If all went well you should be able to remove the mask for the great reveal! In this case Tucker (dog) is now in front of the line of trees. Yeah!
