I hope all the moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I went up to my parents house for a visit which, I hate to admit, was a bit overdue. I made my mom a tag card and had found some unfinished wooden birds at Michaels. She has a little garden and I thought they’d look cheery.

For the card I started with the background using Distress inks. I really like a little texture to start with. I then stamped Magical flowers and used my new favorite Derwent Inktense Watersoluble Ink Pencils to color everything in. I put some clear glaze over the flowers to make them a little shiny, added some glitter for a little sparkle and then used some fluff on the bottom for grass.

The two wooden birds – I painted a base coat on each and then used a stencil to add a top layer of texture (you can probably see it better in the bigger picture). I then added more texture with some wheel stamps that I have that have dots and another that has words. I drew the black lines with a pen and stamped the word “tweet” using an alphabet that I have. I sprayed a couple coats of Krylon sealer to make sure they’d hold up – at least for a little while in the garden that is.

Christy sent this in. Her vibrant flowers just burst against the dark background.

She says “This is an art journal page capturing the beauty we often overlook when going through difficult times.

“Just goes to show when we focus on the good even through the difficulties we just might find magical moments full of color that we would never experience in the daylight.”

The flowers were hand painted on a black acrylic background.  1153-G Pixie Poppy was stamped with embossing ink and coated with white powder.  The saying was pieced together by cutting words from old magazines.

Here’s another journal page from Christy. I agree – don’t worry, be happy! I love her doodle words and scallop.

Here’s how she did it:
Scrap papers and stamped images make the perfect supply list for altering cards in a Rolodex.  They can be altered with any theme including special dates, inspirational quotes, or compiling family memories in mini style.  My cards were altered for a Rolodex containing encouraging scriptures that I hope to give as a gift to a friend.  Check your local thrift shop for a discarded Rolodex.  1033-G Auntie Hyacinth in her flower dress was paper pieced and colored using watercolor paints.  She made looking for a rainbow look like fun.  The bird images paired together painted with blue watercolor paints made this altered card stunning.  A torn paper background and Martha Stewart punch brought this bird themed card to life.

Here’s a great card from Marilyn. She’s done a wonderful job surrounding the whimsical scene with such elegance. Layering the shapes with black really makes them stand out. And then adding the black bow and the jewel – just lovely.

“I added a little Aleenes Glitter Snow to the trees, Stickles Dry Fine Glitter for snow and used the Viva Pearl Pen for snowflakes.  Finally, a little Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass distress ink was rubbed into the sky.”

Shari sent this in and it’s just so lovely. Using just one stamp and oodles of embellishments this card is certainly an abundance of sweetness. I love her layers and sweet colors.

Next up, here’s Shari using the three little birdie stamps.

Isn’t this the sweetest. The little delicate wreath is a die from Memory Box. She cut out the little birds and placed them around, using other dies for the green foliage. She topped it off with flowers, buttons and a cute little saying.

Here is another placecard from Beate. Just adorable! I would like to be invited and find this at my seat. :) The little border die is so cute.

Sky and grass were sponged using distress inks and everything was colored with Copics.
She says the sentiment kind of translates to “Happy Easter Days”

Beate decided to create some place cards for a family meeting when they all celebrate Easter. Not that they don’t know where we sit but she thought the bunny was sooo cute in combination with the flowers that she just had to do it!

She says “It is the first of five I want to do. My mums handwriting looks much better than mine so she will write the names on the cards.
I was inspired by some cards that were created using a frame-die and had to give it a try too!
Love the colors on it, happy and friendly – I’m ready for spring!”

Oh so cute, I think Beate is definitely ready for Spring too!

Here’s what Marilyn came up with using the little birdies and again, oh so sweet. I think this card really shows that sometimes just simple is so lovely. A little drawn line holds the birdies, a sweet little bow and 3 little brads are just the perfect embellishments.
