Stuart the bug-ologist
Filed Under DT: Judy, People, Summer | Leave a Comment
Judy created this cute card using just one stamp – Stuart the bug-ologist. Using simple rectangle shapes she layered, layered and layered some more. :) I think the three green brads and the shiny ribbon add just the right finishing touches. A wonderful summer card – thanks for sharing Judy.

Looks like Kati Ann is drumming up business for her lemonade sales – such the entrepreneur .
Georgia created this great card using lots of little framed areas. The lemon slices look so refreshing and I love the price scratched out and the “Open” sign. She finished it all off with a wonderful polka dot bow.
I don’t know about you but if you’ll excuse me I think I need to grab a glass and pour myself a glass of lemonade!

Family Holiday invitation
Filed Under Cats, DT: Georgia, Dogs, Summer | 1 Comment
Isn’t this the cutest invitation. Georgia has such an eye for putting colors together – the aqua waves with big polka dots and the bright sunny polka dot orange. I love too that she used thicker pop dots behind the Family Holiday label, Yardley kitty and the waves – it really adds such dimension.
She also sent in a picture of the actual invitation with Scooter down at the bottom – notice he’s sporting the same colors she used on the front. To finish it all of two different ribbons were tied at the top. Kinda makes me wish I was part of the family and getting one of these in the mail. :)

For the Brave book
Filed Under Animals, Bears, Book, Cats, DT: Kriss, Dogs, Holiday: 4th of July, People, Summer | 2 Comments
What a great project Kriss has sent in! Using the kids from Maple Lane she’s created a wonderful book. I just love the distressed stamp in the corner, her use of cork (something I’m certainly going to have to try) and all of the details – the flags, the brads – oh just everything!
You can click on the picture to get a closer look. Below are her very detailed instructions – thanks so very much Kriss!
- Paint two 5 ½” x 8 ½” chipboard with red acrylic paint. Two to three layers may be needed to completely cover chipboard. Once dry, gently brush on snow paint with Ranger’s Acrylic Paint Dabber to soften red.
- Using Watermark Resist ink, stamp flourish in upper right corner of front cover. Emboss with white embossing powder.
- Cut cork with Keyholes Mover and Shape die (a label shape). Attach to lower right of front cover.
- Stamp For the Brave with black ink on white cardstock. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Trim to 3” x 5 ¼”.
- Cut light blue cardstock to 1 ½” x 5 ¼” and punch bottom with Effervescence border punch. Attach to bottom of stamped image, and mount both to 4” x 5 ½” black cardstock. Attach to front cover.
- Stamp saying of For the Brave with Watermark Resist on navy cardstock and emboss with white embossing powder. Cut strip close to top and bottom of saying, and attach to front cover with white brads.
- Mask For the Brave to allow cat only to be inked. Ink image with Jet Black ink, remove masks, and stamp on white cardstock. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Cut into circle shape. Layer on top of navy circle and red scallop circle. Attach to cork label with Pop Dots.
- Stamp For the Brave with black ink on white cardstock again, this time for both the flags. Crease your cardstock back onto itself along the “stick” of the flag, and then cut out three sides of the flag; keeping the folded-section intact. Do this for both flags. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Attach each flag to a decorative stick pin, by gluing the stick pin inside the folded flag. Insert flags into Pop Dots on back of scallop circle/cat.
- Attach silver sticky-back dots to cork label.
- Cut either white cardstock or notebook paper to 5 ½” x 8 ½” for the pages of your book. Place pages between covers and punch holes at the top with Bind-It-All. Bind book together with white owires.

A card to welcome all the discovery that can be made when warm weather arrives! The main image, colored with Copics, is Stuart the bug-ologist. He is standing on a layer of stamped stones, with some of the stones cut out and attached with foam squares for a more 3D effect. Joining him on this outdoor adventure is Aunt Annie & Jr Ant. Can you spot them? Any outdoor adventure isn’t complete without a cold drink for refreshment, so the bottled water image was fun to place just perfectly among the stone pile.
I just love the use of the black Dymo tape for the word “Discover” and the little frog that seems to have parked himself on Stuart’s head! Such a fun summer card!

Ants

Crafty Math Chick writes…
I hope you won’t think badly of me for it, but for some reason unbeknownst to me, when I first saw Aunt Annie & Jr. Ant I imagined her thinking “nice butt” due to the way they were positioned. LOL! I thought it was kind of funny. SO that is what I wrote in the thought Bubble. Not sure what I will use it for – perhaps a friend who is currently trying to drop a few pounds when she reaches her goal?
She punched out a bunch of red squares to try to create a background that resembled a picnic cloth and added more grass to ‘ground’ the ants.
I think this is adorable! I love the checkerboard background – I think most ants do too. :)

Beachy keen
Filed Under DT: Georgia, People, Summer | 2 Comments
I think these guys are ready for some summer fun!
I love Georgia’s use of such vibrant colors, so befitting of sunshine and cool water. The background paper with fun little sand-dollars for the bottom and polka dots for the top are just “beachy keen”! I certainly hope they’ve packed their sunscreen because those are some mighty pale legs they’re sportin’. :)

Just keep paddling
Filed Under DT: Georgia, Dogs, Nature, People, Summer | 5 Comments
Georgia says sometimes she thinks she’s paddling upstream… and if she keeps going, she’ll get there…wherever there may be.
This card is so vibrant with the orange background against the teal blue water. I love how she picked those up when coloring as well. Looks like she tore the paper for the water and layered the stamp in between. Very clever and oh so cute!

For the Brave
Filed Under DT: Georgia, People, Summer | 2 Comments
Georgia created this cute card using the saluting kids from Maple Lane. She stamped them on white cardstock and then colored them in adding shadows and details. I love her use of primary colors and the fact that she mimicked the polka dots of the red ribbon in the shirts and leggings of the girls.

Judy started this card with white cardstock and then layered red cardstock on top. She added a piece of blue gingham paper and then a still smaller piece of polka dot paper on top of that. She drew the “beach” using Copic markers and then colored all of her stamped images in. She cut them all out and attached them to the card.
Very cute! Both Phillip and Lilly look like they are all ready for a little dip in the cool blue water! Splash!

Summer frame

Click on the photo below for a detail view.
With frames like this you’ll want to display photos all over the place! Kriss created a very imaginative summer themed project this month. Her son looks perfect in the frame sporting a smile and his soccer attire – I’m sure he’ll be out in this neighborhood scene playing soccer very soon!
Here are her instructions if you’d like to give this project a try…
Instructions:
- Paint outside and inside edges of frame with Sail Boat Blue paint.
- Cover frame with pattern paper.
- Stamp Summer Neighborhood with black ink on white cardstock and chipboard.
- Color image stamped on white cardstock. Cut out around houses and trees allowing approximately a 1 ¼” “grass” base.
- Cut out chipboard image in the same manner. Paint all the edges with black paint. Once dry, adhere colored image on top.
- Using gel medium, attach the neighborhood to the base of the frame.
- Add a few buttons for embellishments.
- Apply alphabet and number stickers, and trace around each one with a black Sharpie marker to make them pop.
Finished frame measures 6 ½” x 8 ½”

Do you remember looking up at the stars when you were a kid and wishing? Or maybe it’s even something you do now. When I originally drew Mia, teddy, Sweet Pea and James looking up I thought of so many things they could be looking at – stars, cloud shapes, birds…
I think Pam did a lovely job and has once again made wonderful use of her Tombow markers – such an eye for shading!
To make the twinkling stars in the night sky – she used the blade of her cutting knife to scrape off the watercoloring to reveal the plain watercolor paper underneath. That is a nice, neat way to show the light paper when you need to. What a great technique! But she also says, just be careful not to press so hard that you rip your paper and scene!

This card is so serene and lovely. Pam’s really outdone herself with her coloring technique.
She started this scene (this is actually just one stamp) by stamping the image and then coloring the water below the image.
Then she stamped the same image using a regular black ink (not StazOn) onto a clear acetate sheet. She immediately turned it over, ink side down, onto the water right below the main image – so that it looked like the shadow of the shoreline reflecting n the water.
After completely coloring the entire scene – she used Liquid Applique to put snow on the mountain top. But before she heated it up to puff it, sprinkled loose glitter on the wet Liquid Applique – so that it sparkles when it puffed up.
Here is her Tombow marker coloring chart:

Great Neighbors
Filed Under DT: Christy, Spring, Summer | 1 Comment
Can’t you just hear the birds chirping and smell the flowers blooming! I just love the way Christy put together this card.
She says she stamped the neighborhood image not once, but twice. On the first stamped image she colored only the houses and trees with Copics and cut them out.
On the second image, she colored everything else, using Prisma Colored Pencils and Gamsol. The houses that were cut out were then attached to the pencil colored base using foam squares to give them more of a pop off the page.
The trees were also attached using only adhesive tape. The birds were punched with a Martha Stewart boarder punch, and the fabric flowers were attached and embellished with rhinestones.
