For the Brave book
Filed Under Animals, Bears, Book, Cats, DT: Kriss, Dogs, Holiday: 4th of July, People, Summer | 2 Comments
What a great project Kriss has sent in! Using the kids from Maple Lane she’s created a wonderful book. I just love the distressed stamp in the corner, her use of cork (something I’m certainly going to have to try) and all of the details – the flags, the brads – oh just everything!
You can click on the picture to get a closer look. Below are her very detailed instructions – thanks so very much Kriss!
- Paint two 5 ½” x 8 ½” chipboard with red acrylic paint. Two to three layers may be needed to completely cover chipboard. Once dry, gently brush on snow paint with Ranger’s Acrylic Paint Dabber to soften red.
- Using Watermark Resist ink, stamp flourish in upper right corner of front cover. Emboss with white embossing powder.
- Cut cork with Keyholes Mover and Shape die (a label shape). Attach to lower right of front cover.
- Stamp For the Brave with black ink on white cardstock. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Trim to 3” x 5 ¼”.
- Cut light blue cardstock to 1 ½” x 5 ¼” and punch bottom with Effervescence border punch. Attach to bottom of stamped image, and mount both to 4” x 5 ½” black cardstock. Attach to front cover.
- Stamp saying of For the Brave with Watermark Resist on navy cardstock and emboss with white embossing powder. Cut strip close to top and bottom of saying, and attach to front cover with white brads.
- Mask For the Brave to allow cat only to be inked. Ink image with Jet Black ink, remove masks, and stamp on white cardstock. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Cut into circle shape. Layer on top of navy circle and red scallop circle. Attach to cork label with Pop Dots.
- Stamp For the Brave with black ink on white cardstock again, this time for both the flags. Crease your cardstock back onto itself along the “stick” of the flag, and then cut out three sides of the flag; keeping the folded-section intact. Do this for both flags. Color with watercolor pencils and blend. Attach each flag to a decorative stick pin, by gluing the stick pin inside the folded flag. Insert flags into Pop Dots on back of scallop circle/cat.
- Attach silver sticky-back dots to cork label.
- Cut either white cardstock or notebook paper to 5 ½” x 8 ½” for the pages of your book. Place pages between covers and punch holes at the top with Bind-It-All. Bind book together with white owires.

Mandy always does such a great job putting together embellishments. This card features Emmie Bear in the center and lots and lots of layered papers. I like how she’s woven the ribbon underneath one of her center cutouts. All those clear blue beads sure look swell too!

Cool dude!
Filed Under Bears, DT: Pam | 2 Comments
Pam’s created another great card! This one features Arthur Alooishus and a “cool dude” sentiment – great card for a little boy. She stamped Arthur bear and then stamped his shirt again on another piece of paper, colored and cut it out. A great layered effect. I think the black and white ribbon and sentiment on the little tag are wonderful details – that little something extra. :)
Here’s Pam’s Tombow marker coloring chart:

Judy ’s at it again, this time creating a cute card for baby. Ahhhh…
She says she started with a plain white card and layered hot pink cardstock and two coordinating pattern papers on top. She cut a pink strip for the middle and a slightly smaller white one and doodled around the edge using a marker. She stamped all the pull toys, colored them in and cut each one out. She adhered them to the back and drew in the little strings. She stamped and cut out Rosebud bear and glued her to the corner. The “Baby” was printed from her computer.

Pendelton and Peewee
Filed Under Bears, DT: Crafty Math Chick | 1 Comment

Crafty Math Chick has been very busy indeed! Not one but THREE cards featuring Pendelton and Peewee for this month. You can click on any of the cards below for a detailed view.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
I love seeing Pendelton and Peewee in white. She did a great job adding the touches of pink in their ears and on their feet, as well as adding a touch of shadow with a really light colored marker. The hot pink she chose for her backgrounds makes everything pop.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
For this card we see Peewee and Pendelton in brown – great shading too. Everything’s so color coordinated – picking up the wee bit of orange in the background with the orange diagonal stripe layered on top. The finishing touches with the brads and the buttons add so much.
HELLO BABY
And we can’t forget baby now can we. :) I don’t use ribbon much but whenever I see it used in a card I think why don’t I? I love that she layered the three colors in the background with the embossed polka dots! Great job!

Oh bears!
Filed Under Bears, DT: Thao, People | 2 Comments

Thao created this sweet little card by first stamping Drew, Mooshie and Itsy Bitsy with Versafine ink and then embossing everything using clear embossing powder. She got out her watercolor crayons and colored everything in. A very sweet card indeed – maybe to send someone a bear hug. :)

Do you remember looking up at the stars when you were a kid and wishing? Or maybe it’s even something you do now. When I originally drew Mia, teddy, Sweet Pea and James looking up I thought of so many things they could be looking at – stars, cloud shapes, birds…
I think Pam did a lovely job and has once again made wonderful use of her Tombow markers – such an eye for shading!
To make the twinkling stars in the night sky – she used the blade of her cutting knife to scrape off the watercoloring to reveal the plain watercolor paper underneath. That is a nice, neat way to show the light paper when you need to. What a great technique! But she also says, just be careful not to press so hard that you rip your paper and scene!

Arthur and the bees
Filed Under Bears, DT: Mandy | 3 Comments

Oh I do hope those bees are friendly. Mandy started this cute card with a sketch from Lord Have Mercy! She said she paper pieced Arthur’s shirt – looks like he’s quite the stylish bear. Love all she’s done in the background – gives me some ideas to start using all the paper I buy at the scrapbook store and love, but don’t know what to do with. Such a dilemma. :)

Rosebud bear
Filed Under Bears, DT: Mandy | 3 Comments

Mandy did a wonderful job on this card – and so many embellishments! The inspiration for her card started with a sketch from Mojo Monday. I love the sparkliness (is that a real word?) of the dot jewels and the all the green brads. Very nice.

Happy Birthday window
Filed Under Bears, Birthday, DT: Thao, People | 7 Comments
Looking at this card, I think that if I close my eyes I can actually feel the warmth of the smiling sun. Thao created this birthday card using two stamps, a little bit of bling, colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits of all things.
I was intrigued by the technique so I wrote and asked. She said she colors towards the edge of the image and then using the odorless mineral spirits and a blending stump, blends inward using a circular motion. She said for large areas putting down a lighter shade as well really makes it blend nicely.
She provided a little side note as well – she’s found that the blending stump can make all the difference and that for her the ones made in Taiwan work better than the ones made in china. I’ve included a picture of what a blending stump (or paper stump as they are also referred to) looks like for those who are curious.
