owh-birthdayOperation Write Home (OWH) is an organization that sends blank handmade greeting cards for all occasions to deployed service members to write home on. They’ve mailed approximately 500,000 cards so far—and are still going strong!

During the month of September they are having a “birthday bash” – with prizes and everything! On September 12 they’ll be hosting some great challenges via their Stars and Stamps blog. Eat Cake Graphics is adding a few “For the Brave” stamps (mounted versions) to OWH prize pot for their end of September drawing! So please visit their website and read the basic guidelines.

A few important details collected from their website:

  • Glitter is NOT allowed (it’s a safety hazard to our heroes)
  • Handmade cards only
  • A2 sized cards 5.5″ x 4.25″ are preferred but not mandatory
  • “Operation Write Home” needs to be on the backs of your cards—it can be stamped, handwritten, or printed on labels. Only cards that are marked with “Operation Write Home” on the backs are eligible for the prize drawings.
  • Include a packing slip (click for a downloadable PDF) inside your box or envelope, and mail them to any of their shippers listed on the Mailroom page.
  • In your package, you can also include notes written to a deployed service member.

You don’t have to submit cards to Eat Cake Graphics, only to Operation Write Home following their guidelines.

Thank you! And God Bless our Troops!

So this is a little update to my “Spam spam and more spam!” post. Thanks so very much to everyone for offering your help and suggestions. I was able to install something called “Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam Image Plugin for WordPress” (wow that’s a mouthful!) found here: http://www.theblog.ca/anti-spam

What this does is create a word that you have to type in a box in order to submit a comment. Supposedly this should stop the spam comments…but I don’t want to speak to soon if you know what I mean.

SOOOOO! I’ve tested it and it seems to be working. If you have trouble please let me know. I enjoy reading all the comments and certainly don’t want to deter anyone from leaving a little note.

Thanks again for all your help!

spamFirst and foremost I have a number of design team projects to post, so stay tuned for some wonderful inspiration!

Second…I’m a pulling my hair out. I actually have two blogs – a personal one and this one. For some reason this blog is getting spammed like crazy! I don’t know why but every day I’m getting dozens of messages in my inbox with comments (spam) to delete. Out of almost 1,000 comments over 800 have been junk. I’m trying to figure out what to do because I’m going crazy trying to keep up with it all. I don’t really want people to have to log in to post comments but it’s almost getting to that point.

word-verifyI’ve seen other blogs that when you type in your comment you also have to type in either letters or a word. This stops almost all, if not all, spammed messages. Unfortunately I haven’t found whatever this is called for WordPress – which is what type of blog I have.

If any of you have an idea of how to do this I would be MOST appreciative.

Ok, toodles for now. I’ll get the new projects posted soon – promise!
