Holly Mabutas-fall shadow box

Today I’m showing you a little Fall Shadow Box I created. I had taken a class from Wendy Vecchi who was featured instructor at The Island’s Creative Escape – a scrapbook store in Los Gatos, California. In it we created a wonderful little shadow box using similar techniques. I thought how could I create another one using my own stamps and this is what I came up with.

It starts with an 8x8inch shadow box frame – nothing fancy. I put a piece of brown cardstock as the base layer in the frame. The canvas is one of those inexpensive ones and measures 6×6. For the background of the canvas I stamped ink pads on a craft sheet, added alochol and smeared my canvas around. It’s kind of fun because you never know what you’re going to get. I the just started building the background – adding stamps for texture, some clear texture paste through a stencil and word rub-ons. I drew in the tree with a marker – I wanted it to look like more of a shadow.

I stamped the kitties in a window twice – using one for the background and then cut out the window frame so I could layer it on top.

For the letters I used an alphabet die from Sizzix and some of Wendy’s Mat Board (I purchased her Faux Graniteware Starter Kit – it came with the mat board and a splatter stamp- REALLY FUN).

Once I was happy with everything I glued it down using E6000 glue. I had a little package of fall leaves and glued a few down to the actual picture and let the others just loose in the frame. This project makes me so happy. I went out and bought two more frames! I can’t wait to do a winter one.

Here’s a little close up:
