Coloring with Colored Pencils

I use colored pencils quite a bit. I prefer Prismacolor brand but there are certainly other brands (and always remember coupons are your friend).

For the most part I work in "threes" - a light, a medium and a dark. They don't have to be all in the same color family - for instance you don't have to use a light blue + a medium blue + a dark blue, you could use light teal + medium blue + dark purple. Try different color combinations on a scratch piece of paper, you might be surprised what you come up with.

Below is an example of how I might color an image using a light, medium and dark.

Step 1

Decide on a base color. Using a light touch add a layer of color to areas of your stamped image.

Step 2

I go back in and start adding the details with a second color (I used the same brown pencil and pressed harder). Remember to leave light or white areas for interest.

Step 3

I went back in with a dark brown and defined some areas. I also added a bit of a scribble to Sasha's chest to look a bit like fur and again add some interest.
